Been on marketplace seeing a lot of cannondale, specialized and other various older road bikes for sale. I’m relatively new to the cycling life and was wondering if they would be good purchases? From the research I’ve done most older bikes need a good amount of parts to be “rideable”. For reference I only have done some greenway riding and light trail riding on my fat bike so don’t plan on going to crazy.

  1. All a bike needs to be rideable is no rust, serviced bearings, cables, brake pads, tubes and tires, and everything tuned correctly. You don’t need a bunch of parts.

So that means that an old bike is a great way to start riding. If you have a local bike shop that can do the maintenance I just mentioned. Or if you want to do it yourself, an old bike is a good place to start, since they’re easy to service.
