I would offer them this as a counterpoint: Grease has never caused my seatpost to move while in use.

It’s probably because everything is made with the durability of a baby bird nowadays and lawsuits are everywhere.

Screw that though. She gets grease, like those before her.

That’s like selling hotdog buns, and having instructions to not apply mustard. Grease it up

  3. They are probably just covering their bases against people greasing their seat post, inserting it into old carbon frame, injuring themself due to post slippage or having frame failure and frame manufacturer blaming grease. Instructions need to be so simple and universal that even dumbest person on the planet shouldn’t fail.

  4. Carbon paste for my carbon posts. Anti-seize for my titanium and aluminum posts (copper or nickel based). Grease if anti-seize not currently available. Yes, if there’s a loose fit grease will make post slip.

Edit: Don’t put post in naked, go ride in the rain, then forget about it for months. Particularly with steel frames and aluminum posts. We get lots of stuck seatposts at the local co-op.

    Grease it.

…actually.. over-grease it, just because they thought they could tell you what to do.

I’ve had a couple of seatposts slip after I installed them with grease. That said, I’m a fairly heavy rider. I’ve had much better luck with anti-seize or carbon assembly paste.

  7. Friction paste = grease

It’s just grease with aggregate in it so that it can slide with the clamp off and bind when the clamp is on. I think that warning is just to prevent some moron from lathering it up with a handful of marine grease.

Looks like Big Seat Post and Big Frame got their lobbyists together finally to manipulate instructions.

  9. in fairness the instructions want you to use anti seize which is what the freeze which is what the grease is for?
