Since we were on a budget I reused some parts bin stuff and looked for inexpensive replacement parts. I know the derailleur is wonky but it was $15 and let me use a friction shifter I had laying around and reuse the 7-speed cassette.

I think your chain is much too short. Fun looking build though.
Chain too short, stem too long.
Also if you’re not gonna get a wide-range cassette, put the other two chainrings and derailler/shifter back on.
nice cruiser-like build. for a budget build, sure looks like it’s gonna be a reliable ride.
steel cruiser rims are a choice, not an ideal braking surface (especially when wet), but if someone built me up a street cruiser like that, id be happy as hell
