A bold combination I made a couple years ago.

It was fun to build but at the time I couldn’t get it to work perfectly.

Some years later I stripped the bike and now it is just laying around. I am thinking about rebuilding a similar thing with the frame do a same dropbar levers and rimbrake combination.

What are you guys’s experience with this combination, is it doable or always prone to failure?

  1. The biggest issue I can see is that you are mixing hydraulic systems.

    – the Magura HS33 (and similar) use a closed system meaning there is no reservoir in the lever to adjust piston depth.

    – the Shimano brake levers use an open hydraulic system where in there’s a reservoir in the lever that adds or holds fluid allowing the pistons on a disc brake system to self adjust as pads wear or heat builds up in the system.
