I have a Giant Fastroad AR 3 (2023) and the side of the fork have mounting holes for presumably mudguards, but the top of the fork does not.
My local bike shop recommended they drill a hole into the top of the fork so the mudguard can be fitted properly.
I'm concerned about long term strength of the fork if I do this however. Does this seem normal or is there a better solution?

Put a protection layer of strong tape under it and you are fine.
Helicopter tape is your friend
Should be a threaded hole in the bottom of the fork crown
Sks speed rocker fenders
Holy head tube!
Definitely don’t drill into your fork
Why not use a crud catcher or similar that mounts to the frame downtube
There will be mudguards designed for this kind of fork, so if all else fails you could seek one of those out.
Put some tape under the zip ties to prevent rubbing and see how that goes, will probably be strong enough.
If you want to mount the guard a bit higher could use zipties to mount a kind of bracket holding a bolt in the midpoint of the rear face of the crown to fix the guard to. Polyform plastic should probably work.
