This is my 2020 Kahuna. Id like to install a dropper and this is how it looks.

Now, from top of the seat tube to that weld by the BB is about 415mm. But that hole for the routing is about 370mm from the top of the seat tube. Can the bottom of the dropper extend past the grommet hole and still work? Or does the cable need to pull on the bottom so the dropper should sit higher than that hole?

Sorry for the noob questions, just don't want to get the wrong thing 🙂 the dropper I'm looking at has 150mm travel but is a total length of 420mm, and I'd rather it wasn't sticking out the top so much. Otherwise it's a 100mm dropper.

  1. No, it will not work unless you can find some specially designed dropper meant for this specific situation.

  2. It’s the pass-through for the cable. If you need to feed the cable from the bottom of the post, you need the hole. Otherwise if you don’t need the hole, it’s allright to “cover it” with the seatpost.

  3. The post cannot extend past the entry for the housing. The housing that enters there needs to go into the very bottom of the dropper post to actuate the dropper. If thats not possible with the 150 then you’ll need a shorter dropper.

    a little math….

    total post length = 415

    travel = 150

    which means the remaining distance on the maximum insertion length is only 265mm… probably 255 mm since the dropper seal collar is about 10-15mm.

    you will have an extra 115mm of distance between the bottom most position of the post and the frame cable insert point.

    your dropper is 100% fine for this frame
