Found a free 1986 Specialized Hardrock that was left outside for years and this is the last big challenge.

It was the non drive side and was able to remove the spindle with the arm, so it’s not the biggest deal but I’d prefer to save some cash and try to get the crank arm free rather than buying a used replacement on eBay.

Heating with a heat gun and adding penetrating oil doesn’t seem to do it. I’m letting penetrating oil soak it and was going to keep adding penetrating oil for another 3-4 days before trying to heat up and try again. Any other advice?

  1. I’d start with some Evapo-rust and soak for a day or so. Once that’s done it’s thing give it a go, if it doesn’t come off then soak in oil for a few days and retry.

You can also go in carefully with a dremel and cut channels in the nut.
