Thats a lot of length to your derailleur hanger. In fact , this bike has essentially 2 hangers.
This means that even a small bed to the hanger will cause a large derailleur misalignment.

My pro guess is that the derailleur got hub up in the spokes (but I done see spike damage, so maybe not) OR that the chain was stuck between 2 gears and when starting form a stopped position, the torque in the chain was enough to make it bind and since the chain is stronger than the derailleur, the derailleur took the brunt of the failure.

When you replace that derailleur, get one that doesn’t have a pre-attached hanger. Your frame comes equipped with a hanger already, a second one is just a poor choice made by the manufacturer (most likely cause it was a cheaper option for their accounting dept.)

  2. Chain wrapped around pulley cage in a really weird way, seems like chain pulled on cage and then B-pivot (part where is hole now, and river with spring on frame)

Probably chain was little bit rusty and links wouldn’t rotate freely. Or chain routed wrong way through derailleur.

Still weird that it seems to be pulled and bent forward as that happens when you backpedal.

Oh cage somehow twisted further that limiting knob, that’s why it looks like it bent forward, rather opposite it turned clockwise past limiter, thats why it seems unspringed.

My conclusion is still the same – chain pulled the derailleur and its pivot just couldn’t handle it. Honestly i think that’s even repairable but doesn’t worth the hassle and it’s better to but new one.
Personally i recommend any shimano acera or new shimano essa if you can find it cheap (seems to be overpriced for now)

  3. What RD was that? I have put a lot of miles through cheaper derailleurs and I don’t think I have ever seen one looking as rusty as that after such a short time. That’s also quite an unusual failure mode – I’ve seen it once before when the derailleur got pulled into the spokes.

From what I saw, there was a lack of maintenance; the rust broke the pin that holds the spring and the rest of the gearbox.
