Seems like my 1040 solar really only charges during active cycling.
If I have not started a ride in point it to the sun, it actually shows the solar intensity but will never have any sort of battery gain
All I have to do is start a ride and then place the unit in the sun and very quickly it will show a battery gain
The two screenshots below show the first one when the unit was in a pass of State, and the second photo shows when I had started a ride.
Anyone have similar experiences or is there a way to truly get this unit to charge when you just set it in the sun

They broke my edge explore 2 a couple of updates back, with it not being able to read the charge left (jumps around), which means it turns off constantly and has to be rebooted a couple of times. And then in anything from a minute to 30 minutes, I can go round and round again.
I thought I would go the H1i plus, but that is even more of a sh show, then the etrex touch 2 – same sh show.
Honestly, my phone is way more reliable than any Garmin at this stage, defeating the entire purpose for me having a bike computer in the first place
I also wanted the Inreach Mini 3, but that couldn’t send an SOS according to DCRainmaker.
