Hey all, I got this sweet bike for my daughters

It's 2021 RipRock. It's almost exactly what I was looking for. My only gripe is I wish it had a rigid fork instead of the XCT coil because it's just so heavy.

I do have a few questions though

  1. I really don't like the grip twist shifter, I want to put on a regular shifter. I'm assuming I can just get any 7 speed trigger shifter and it should work with a tourney derailluer

  2. (Edit: It's a freehub, other comment pointed it out under wheel not drivetrain)

  3. Anyone know a cheap rigid fork that would work for this bike?

As far as the shifter goes, yeah. As long as it’s the same number of gears, it’ll work the same. Shimano Altus are pretty inexpensive, but you could even get Microshift for 1/2 as much. I put MS on a build recently though, and they’re definitely not as smooth as Shimano. Might be a little tougher for small hands.

  2. The rear hub is mentioned as freewheel so I assume that’s what it gets, BUT, the picture shows a SunRace cassette (you can see the lockring) and the range is mentioned 11-34T which is a HG cassette type of gearing: freewheels typically had 12T or 14T as the smallest because of additional “girth” around their axle.

I don’t see that as very important though, unless you plan on swapping it out with 9/10/11 or whatever speed and you need a HG freehub.

On getting rid of the grip-shifter, You are correct, you can link the Tourney derailleur to any 6 or 7 speed trigger shifter and it should work; i used the Shimano SL-M315 Altus + a 7 speed Tourney “Mega-Range” Freewheel to get rid of the grip-shift on my kiddo’s Co-op REV 20+, as there was no 6-speed trigger shifter available at that time, so upgraded shifter + freewheel, keepingt the same RD and chain, and got lower than 1:1 ratio for him as a bonus.
