I can agree it took my brother about a year after he passed to get comfortable on the motor way and I went straight on the motorway as soon as I got a car after I passed
I passed my driving test without ever going on a motorway and I used the 4th gear once, so I was a new driver who was scared to use the 4th, 5th and 6th gear.
When I learned that less petrol is consumed by using higher gears I put that fear away and started using the higher gears, I also decided to drive on a motorway as I needed it to get faster to work. You basically have to take a leap of faith and do it until you are comfortable.
Way i did it was go on a longish trip using A roads, during work and school hours so its 'quieter' and then way back youll get the busier traffic and be eased into it
My dad learned to drive in our small town with the impossibly narrow streets. He can maneuver a truck through anything. Taking an exit on a motorway? Nope! 😂
Driving on the highway to work, with my partner, was a great way to get over the fear of driving for real, it made city driving and short commutes moot, when I eventually took my test I passed second try without incident (failed on parallel parking first attempt)
Trucks are going 56mph not 60. They're allowed to go to 60 and very very rarely will you come across one actually going 60. Mostly they're limited to 56mph for economical purposes.
You sure your in England mate they’re the easiest and widest roads we’ve got every other road is like trying to get through a crowded ass area and your wide ass car has barely any room ever even if your in a shitty little Fiat
Im a bit concerned getting my licence in Ireland I'm shocked motorway ountry night driving aren't mandatory like in Germany you have to do them .. not sure if the instructor would take me there if I paid them ..
I built up motorways so much in my head before ever experiencing one, then the first time I ended up on one I was just bored staring at one long road for a couple of hours, they’re not bad at all just don’t be a dickhead and keep an eye out for dickheads, that’s all there is to it

My first instructor took me on the M20 in my second lesson. I don’t have him anymore

Been driving for over 3 years now but never had the guts to go on the motorway 😢 i feel very anxious just thinking about it

Agreed. Terrifying at first but slowly my favourite. Very different in traffic as well but definitely love motorways
My brother had to driving on a motorway after 8 hours of driving, i think it's been the easiest part of driving
If you can drive dual carriage you can drive on the motorway, just have to be aware of additional bits on the motorway.
