This is a set of carbon wheels that had 1 ride on them and the original user was a little heavy. First ride front and rear wheel crimped like this. Could this be used? I’ve inspected them severely and can’t find a crack but there’s definitely something going on with these wheels. There could have been user error mounting the wheels but I really can’t find a crack. It’s not a bubble either.
Any suggestions?

Is that a major brand wheel?
It’s almost certainly gone. The way it’s buckling would not be possible if the fibers were intact. There’s almost certainly a serious crack in there, and the remaining fibers can no longer resist the compressive load of the spokes.
Jeezus I wouldn’t trust those for 1 mile…

This is interesting in that I don’t expect carbon fiber to buckle like metal might. Now, it’s possible the wheel got exposed to heat in that spot. Like maybe car exhaust. That could cause something like that. Otherwise it would have had to come like that from the factory. Either way, this is all academic. It’s dead. Do not ride it. They will fail.
I would ride a lot of the stuff people on here say not to…. I would not ride this lol.

so the wheels were fine when you bought them from a heavier rider, but on your first ride both ended up like this? i have no idea what’s happening here unless you’re storing your bike in a puddle of solvent or something.
