This could be a unpopular opinion, but the bike in the photo isn't really a e-bike. I've seen countless videos of these type of motorcycle styled bikes where riders barely using the pedals. They are just using the throttles. Might as well just remove the pedals. For me, these are not e-bikes but rather e-scooter with two large wheels. Or light electrical mopeds. Where I'm from in Europe, these are not common. Maybe this is a american thing, I don't know. But not a fan.

  1. They never should have. They’re E-Motorbikes.

Edit: I’m from Europe too and have never seen one.

  2. I’m from the Netherlands and they’re everywhere. They should be regulated as mopeds in my opinion… They’re no different to the old Puch and Kreidler mopeds (except shittier quality in general)

I think we should differentiate between an bike with motor, or an motorbike with pedals.

The picture shows in my opinion a motorbike with pedals.

Basically: if you can remove the motor and it is just a bike, its an ebike(throttles do have their place and forbidding them wouldn’t be the right solution)

  4. I don’t understand the problem with them. With sufficient cycling infra they can blend in. As long as the 25km/h limit is in place. If not, arrest them.

They are not called e-bikes anywhere in Europe. That’s a USA problem.

In Europe, these are either classed as mopeds or as motorcycles. And yes, they do exist, and our Belgian police loves to seize them and crush them.

Nothing will change the minds of the idiots over at eBikes. When the entire country has laws like New Jersey they will cry about how they didn’t see this coming
