Looking to get a mid-range aero bike. I'm somewhat limited by my height (198 cm) but Canyon and Scott both make frames big enough and still offer a good value proposition for the money. From what I can tell, the biggest difference is the inclusion of a powermeter on the aeroad but the difference in price mostly makes up for that. The other thing is the Aeroad is completely out of stock in my size and I'm not keen to play the site watching game for the next few months. Get the scott or wait for aeoroad?

  1. The scott has far superior wheels with a decent internal rim width. DT swiss is either stuck in 2015 or the perfectly paved swiss Alps with their rim design. Also, fellow tall guy here, if you have especially long legs, it’s nice to get your saddle forwards and, with a lot of saddle height, the seat tube on the Foil will be effectively a lot steeper so you might get a faster/more sustainable position. I find hip impingement a massive problem with slack seat tube angles and my long femurs so I’d get the Foil personally.

The wind tunnel says the Aeroad is slightly faster but it’s within the margin of yaw angle weighting and other errors. The Aeroad will also let you play with bar width, eg you could have it comfy wide for the off season and narrow for the race season. Otherwise it’s up to vibes.

I will say both these bikes are due an update with the foil almost certainly set to receive one in the first half of this year which will drive prices down for older models, so if you’re able to wait, do.
