Crazy cheap for a modern 700c bike with disk brakes.

I believe the host of The Pedalshift Project podcast made an e-bike from one of these.

It’s a perfectly fine bike and gets enough for most people, including all of us here. If you needed to get around, it’ll serve that purpose, and at that price, it’s unbeatable. I believe most people nowadays are over-biking anyways. Thick they are, something that they aren’t.

Some of those Ozark Trail bikes are pretty eye-catching. Definitely turned my head at a Critical Mass ride a while back, then I was like, “Wait, did I just check out an *Ozark Trail* bike!?”

I just don’t like the lack of sustainability.
Very few people who buy this brand new $100 bike will ride it more than 100 times before it winds up, A: in a pile of similar discarded bikes or B: tombstoned in a shed or garage.
Technically they are serviceable. Realistically they are the last bikes anybody wants to work on.

I’m not buying any bike listed with 28” tires. Lol

You do you but if you’re going to ask for opinions be open minded that not everyone thinks like you, to me F! Walmart and also target, I haven’t buy a bike in 20 years because i don’t need to, I’m still riding my trek 930 with the original components except for chain, brakes, grips and saddle I support my local bike coop that collects bikes fix them and sell for cheap with good quality parts, Christmas well they give around 100 bikes to kids so they can ride they only ask for the bike to be exchange when the kids outgrown the bike, I switch body soaps because I can’t support anything that helps project 2025, if you want to buy the bike go head is your money you work for it and don’t ask for opinions just be happy and keep it to your self 🤙🏽

I’d buy it, but 100% pass in the free assembly. Or do it only so they can take the box away if I didn’t have a place to toss it, but then check everything myself.

How validating, in the other thread about this bike I was downvoted to hell for saying I would never buy a bike from Walmart, however it seems to be the general sentiment in this thread.

Pull off all the components and replace with Paul, Chris King, etc…
koolerb on
It depends on the components. I’ve had neighbors bring me their Dicks/Walmart bikes for help because they cant get them dialed in and working quite right. The generic bottom of the barrel components just don’t work very well. That said I don’t know what comes on this bike, I’m just assuming for $105 they aren’t going to be very good.

Is this instore only? That’s an insane deal. Been wanting to get one of these for my GF.

What sucks about Walmart bikes is that the Hable people who are capable of working on them, are generally riding higher quality bikes.
The people buying them generally don’t know what they’re doing and don’t realize it, but would benefit from buying a bike shop bike because then at least you would get a support system with it.

It’s a disposable product. The person who buys this will not know how to maintain it. When I worked at a LBS, our policy was, “we don’t work on department store bikes.” Many shops are like this. The time it takes to work on this bike for anything other than a new tube would “total” the bike.

this is a good bike even at $250. there is not another new bike that comes close. with some brake adjustments and maybe some better tires, it’s a capable little commuter. you could even upgrade the brakes to some mt200’s for cheap.

At that price I would buy it, then take it to my LBS to have them fix everything the guy assembling it at Walmart messed up.

I’m not familiar with this brand, but if it’s walmart. I’d make sure all the shifting and braking works well.
Even though, I’m not familiar with Walmart’s bikes. I’m am familiar big box store retailers and what they do is contract out their bike builds. These contracted bike builders build like 30-50 bikes at a time and it’s easy for them to be sloppy. The bikes are usually slapped together, but not fine tuned. You see. If someone I know were to buy a walmart bike, I’d have the bike looked over by a bike mechanic you trust or a friend that knows something about bikes. If you have neither, maybe a co-op community shop where you can learn how to maintain the bike yourself or have them do it if that’s done there. Either way, have another set of experienced eyes look over the bike to make sure it’s in safe rideable condition.
With that said, bikes from this price point use parts that don’t provide optimal shifting and braking so be prepared for that.

Yes it’s cheap, but you get what you pay for.
