Tour of Burton Bridge brewery, chat with Head brewer Al, discussion on hops and yeast open fermentation and traditional beers resurrected from history.

Welcome back to Wheatlow Brewery! 🍻
Today isn’t a brew day — we’re heading out on a field trip to Burton-on-Trent, one of the most important brewing towns in the UK.

In this video I visit Burton Bridge Brewery and explore what makes Burton such a legendary place for beer, including the area’s brewing history, the old Bass heritage, and why Burton brewing has shaped British beer styles for generations.

If you enjoy brewery tours, cask ale, traditional British brewing, and behind-the-scenes brewery chat, this one’s for you!

  1. Very interesting video. Goes to show with knowledge and passion you can brew a great beer on not brand new automated equipment.
Video quality was good. I did notice a couple times where your audio faded. I saw the lav mic was on your subject.
Great video. I really enjoyed it. Cheers 🍻

  2. Great video. I love learning about old British beers and brewing, both professionally and at home. And future generations will thank you for making videos like this. My late dad documented a lot of our local history, mostly audio and writing, but a few videos on VHS. And it is a great thing to have now

  3. Used to go drinking there in the 80’s when I was a teenager 😊, many years ago now 😢. I’ve still got a couple of their Commemorative Ale beer bottles that they brewed for the Burton Beer Festival in 1984. Good to see they are still going and I normally go for a beer there when I’m back in Burton. Great video, hope you do more of these. Cheers 🍻

  4. Brilliant video (again) mate. It’s so easy to get lost in the more “obvious” breweries in the UK, even the craft beer ones – it is heart warming to know that there are genuine “trad” brewers out there fighting the fight for proper real ale. Excellent – keep em coming.

  5. Loved the bits on yeast and water. Years ago when I moved to York for a year I became a regular in the Minster Inn. My first night in there they had Burtonwood Bitter (no relation to Burton Bridge) as a the permanent cask, never had it before. A lovely resfreshing bitter with a nutty character. A few months later in a York Brewery pub I had a Vale Brewery bitter called Wychert. This also had a lovely nutty character, I didn't connect the two. I now live a few miles away from the Vale brewery but the Wychert doesn't taste the same. Found out during a "meet the brewer" night at my village pub that Vale used to use the Burtonwood yeast but changed to the Nethergate yeast, which is the Ridley's yeast, many years ago. The yeast has a very neutral character, apparently.

  6. Burton Bridge is without doubt my favourite Brewery. So wish they could deliver more often to South Yorkshire. I live in the Barnsley area and have only once been able to enjoy a pint at the local Wetherspoon's. I live in hope lol.

  7. Awww Richard that was an absolutely fascinating watch thankyou for that it’s really great to see people so passionate about brewing good old traditional cask beer and to see someone from Brazil so fascinated with our brewing history. I’ll be checking out Burton Bridge website and really looking forward to your upcoming video with the union set back in action.
Thankyou for another Sunday delight cheers Richard frothing ale 👍🍺🍺🍺😊

  8. We definitely need more brewery tours. You’ve got a great mix of content now which keeps it fresh. Give me a shout if you ever need a cameraman or someone to grab the b-roll, rock steady hands after a pint or two!

  9. Great video! The passion at Burton Bridge really comes through and its great that they are being recognised. Love bringing old beers to life! Looking forward to seeing the next video. Ill be keen to give it a go! Cheers Richard
