My first on it felt really good but it does need some upgrades. So far I have acquired a better fork to replace this coil one but now I need a boost front wheel. I also have a dropper post to install and a better derailleur. After I get some more time on it I may get those surly corner bars and I definitely need a frame bag.

Wow, haven’t seen an Airborne in a while. I had an Airborne MTB mid 2000s. Super light and a speed demon. Great bike.
steps to convert a hardtail to a flatbar monster gravel bike.
1. get a hardtail
I converted an old Giant hardtail to a flat bar with bar ends gravel bike. It stays at my cabin and gets ridden 5-10 X’s a year. I’ve had an Exotic carbon fork on it for 2 or 3 years. Works well for gravel. Picked it up on Amazon. I wouldn’t take it on any MTB trails for sure, but just for gravel, it works well. Might be worth it for you if you want to lighten it up.
