I figured the Flaremax deserved some love after 3 years of service, so it got some love. If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of Hope, and have their brakes and cockpit stuff on several of my bikes. I figured if there was one bike to get all-in on with Hope, it was my Cotic.

Replaced the Cane Creek Helm MKII with a Fox 36SL

Hope 155mm cranks with Hope bottom bracket

Garbaruk Cassette (matches Hope Orange great)

XX1 chain in rainbow

Hope 31.8 carbon bars to… Hope 35mm carbon CHAMELEON bars

Hope 31.8mm stem to… Hope 35mm stem

Hope Union RC pedals

Hope dropper lever

Hope jockey wheels

Hope valves

Chromag saddle and close-enough matching SDG grips

Kryptotals front and rear (have been running specialized tires for a few years on my bikes. Love these contis!)

Loving the 36SL now that I’ve had a few rides on it, and with one ride in on the garbaruk cassette I think it’s a great alternative to an xo or xx1, being lighter and a bit cheaper (and nice to look at!).

  1. Absolutely gorgeous bike; I too own a Flaremax and opted for even shorter (150mm) cranks. I also run Kryptotals but will be running Teravails this year.

  2. Fun-Description-9985 on

Not a day goes by that I don’t regret selling my Flaremax. Absolutely brilliant bikes.

  3. great looking bike. Did you get the cane creek shock rebuilt? Also, how do you like the new fox? Thinking about getting the 160mm version.
