Hi,

I'm relatively new to the cycling world and don't know that much about everything yet. Last year, I did a lot of bikepacking on my Focus Atlas 6.8. I rode 5000km across Germany, including through the Alpine foothills. I'm planning an Alpine crossing for next year.

However, I've realized that it would be much more fun with easier gearing, especially if I plan to ride in the mountains more often.

You can see my current gearing in the picture. I thought the easiest solution would be to put on a different cassette, but my trusted bike shop said that wouldn't work.

What do you think would be a good idea? Or perhaps you have some experience with this bike?

You can geht a cassett with 36, for more you need Something link the Roadlink. Then 40 or even more should bei possible. But Not easy to Set Up properly… Got the Atlas too, with 36 and a Road Bike with roadlink

Why wouldn’t a different cassette work?

In any case, I would just get a smaller chainring up front. That will make it easier up hill, at the cost of lowering the high too.

I prefer being able to go up hill, rather than going slightly faster downhill.

  3. I’ve put an 11-40t cassette on an r7000 and a grx400 rear derailleur with no modifications besides a longer chain. I would imagine, the 810 would be able to shift that as well. Your shop will probably not install it for reasons of „officially its not compatible“ but if you like to tinker, give it a try
