Haven’t found a fitting brake for my current singlespeed project. This frame is originally built for a back pedal brake. With the new wheelset I gonna need new ones. Tried some Tektro R559 I still had laying around but the brake arms were a little bit too short to reach the rim. Thinking about buying the Dia-Compe MX890.

My question is, if you guys would recommend using this back part of my frame for this kind of brakes and if you have some recommendations. Wanted to keep this project as cheap as possible, but I guess it’s already to late for that… oh and btw, the brakelevers are sram s500. Thanks for any advice!

  1. Ok, if you already tried the Tektro559 and the don’t fit this gets difficult. Their brake arm max lenght is 73mm, I know only one rim brake with longer arms than these, it is from Contec and designed for use with the Pletscher plate mount:

Also, you could consult a frame builder to solder a better/lower brake brigde in the frame, but this could esasily cost more than the whole project itself…

  2. The frame doesn’t have a brake bridge the bit above the wheel is for attaching a rack & mudguards to it is nowhere near strong enough to take the force that would go through it if you bolted a brake on there.
