hi all, trying to replace this worn out cassette and it's giving me trouble. I have the right tool but do I need to remove the skewer? thanks for the help.
That’s the axle rather than a skewer. The correct tool will have a large enough hole in the center to go over the axle.

Do you have a chain whip and a wrench? You need to insert the cassette tool, lock the cassette with the whip, and then apply pressure on both.
I like to put the wheel vertical (like it would be on a bike while riding) and you should have the whip in your left hand and wrench in the right. Push with your body and it should unscrew.
