  1. Yes but it’s not gonna be cheap. I don’t think you have an eccentric bottom bracket. There are eccentric hubs but you’ll be paying heinous amounts of money for those and you’d have to either find a wheel or pay a bike shop to build a wheel with that hub.

There are some eccentric bottom brackets. [Velo Orange](https://velo-orange.com/products/eccentric-bottom-bracket-bsa?srsltid=AfmBOoo49W5LehwH2qMd6TSWJ_yioAEZDamAymsOjtx0Tr1JeV8kdbu2) makes this but $100 is kinda steep. All depends on how much money you are willing to spend.

I’d mess around with the gearing you might end up lucky and find a good medium with the tension been right

  3. It’s possible you could use a ‘magic gear’. Sometimes there’s a chainring and cog combo that works out just right with your frame to not need a tensioner.
You’ll need to know the chainstay length for that bike, which shouldn’t be too hard to find if you know the year and model.

Then try this website out to see if there’s a gear ratio that works and would also be acceptable for dirt jumping use.

  4. It’s not a very pretty chain tensioner I must admit. Though your options are limited and the chain tensioner is most practical and best performing for this case. Maybe have a look for s single cog one with a nice anodized finish if your son likes the look of any.
