This may be a controversial opinion but I stick to it. People think racing is the hardest part, but in reality the most difficult part of your first Ironman 70.3 is what happens before race day: the training and the ADMIN and FAFF before race day πŸ˜†

Here some bite-sized tips for your first 70.3 ✨
▫️If you can, start going to sleep earlier the week prior so your body clock is used to going to sleep early and getting up early for race day
▫️Make sure you arrange bike transport or bike rental far in advance. Most airlines charge extra for bike carriage and you have book far in advance.
▫️Make sure you pack your bike SO CAREFULLY and use towels or bubble wrap to protect all the fragile parts
▫️This might be a bit disappointing: but the day before race day is NOT your time to go explore the city! You have to check in your bicycle at T1 and pack your transition bags and drop them off. Double-check you have everything in your bag. Even if you have some extra time, you shouldn’t be on your feet the entire day. You can explore the city post-race πŸ€—
▫️You need to carb-load, but don’t over do it! People take this opportunity to go absolutely crazy. Remember, you’ve been tapering for 10 – 14 days. Your exercise load has decreased, and you’re most likely still consuming the same amount of calories as if you were still training hard. Sports drinks are an amazing way to carb load without bloating.
▫️Make note of where your bike is parked at T1! At big events, it’s so easy to waste time in transition looking for your bike.
▫️I cannot stress this enough: SEED YOURSELF CORRECTLY FOR THE ROLLING SWIM START! If you’re not a competent swimmer, seeding yourself with the faster swimmers is not only dangerous and panic-inducing for you to have people swimming over you, but it’s actually a nuisance and not in the spirit of sport for you to be blocking the faster swimmers. If you’re a faster swimmer, seed yourself to start at the front so you don’t waste energy zig-zagging around the slower swimmers.
