Could anyone please estimate if it would be a decent deal to buy said vintage steel frameset for about 150 euros/170 dollars, if it's in nice condition?

Tange Infinity or #2 thinned steel tube frame and fork only (unlike in the picture where it is still with extra parts).

Very neat looking to my eye. Definitely used, but given no dents and very little rust. Or should I try to wait for a better deal?

I have daily drivers already so not in a rush, this would be my first project bike. I think it would be a bit in the expensive side but I know the size would be just right, and it is not exactly the most common one, such a tall boi. So there's that.

Thanks!

  1. That’s definitely Tange #2. Looks like a nice frame. There seems to be very little info online about these, but it looks like it has cutouts in the lugs, which AFAIK was only on Nishiki’s higher-spec models. One upside off this frame, if you plan to build with modern parts, is that it should have the BSA threading standards that are still common today. It also looks like it may have had recessed brake mounts, rather than the older nutted style, so that’s b good if planning to fit more modern brakes.

Price seems kinda high, though? Idk, at least here in the US, the used bike market has crashed pretty hard, there doesn’t seem to be a ton of demand for older bicycles like this. Nishiki also doesn’t have the appeal that a more “boutique” brand does, like Colnago or Serrota. For example I have a Tange #2 Lotus Classique with Shimano 600 Arabesque parts that I’m planning to sell soon, so similarly equipped to this Nishiki but perhaps slightly lower-end. Its a complete bicycle in pretty good shape and I’ll likely list for around $200 usd.
