  1. Hey everyone, first post in this subreddit – hope I’m doing everything right.

The bike is a 2025 Cube Nuroad Race, and it’s been making this sound ever since I cleaned it after my last ride. I didn’t notice anything while I was out. After the tour (outside temp was around 3°C), I sprayed it down using a manual pressure sprayer (max 3 bar). Afterwards, I lifted it by the saddle and let the rear end bounce 3-4 times from a height of about 20-30cm to shake off some of the water before drying it completely with a towel. I noticed the noise immediately when rolling it right after the bounces.

Now I’m worried about where the sound is coming from and if I might have damaged something. Then again, if it can handle riding over rocks and roots, these small drops without any weight on the bike shouldn’t really matter, right?

To me, it sounds like a washing machine with metal scraps inside. I’m thankful for any ideas and want to say thanks in advance! 🙂

P.S.: The bike actually just had its first inspection at the dealer right before this ride…”

  2. If you’re not comfortable taking the cassette and free hub body off to inspect the internals and bearings I would take it to your local bike shop and have them check over the wheel. Worst case is it’ll need new bearings, but I imagine it’ll just need some grease.

Possibly a missing pawl in the free hub. Might be loose or require some cleaning/regreasing.
