Hey Folks! I got an old Raleigh Ascender MTB Frame with no original parts, confused by what type of derailleur hanger I need since there does not seem to be any hole for the little screw on generic hangers to pass through. Does anyone have any ideas? Does the screw pass through the rectangular hole above the claw? any advice would be greatly appreciated

That screw doesn’t screw into a hole in the frame. The hanger will come with a small piece that holds the hanger in position in the dropout when you take the wheel off, that’s what the screw is for.
The screw threads into a plate on the backside to keep it in the dropout, not through the frame. The wheel axle won’t sit all the way back into the slot of the dropout, so you will need to align the wheel by hand and possibly adjust the brakes.
This hanger should work with your frame, but keep in mind that it’s only affixed to the frame via that plate pinching the dropout.
Buy it, it’ll work.
There’s a wedge being the hanger that being held by the bolt.
The wedge go in the gap of the drop out all the way to the top.

Ah! you guys are all brilliant, solved in minutes, very clearly explained, I never thought that the screw threads into the dropout along with the wheel, i’ve much to learn about bike mechs! Thanks everyone! u/drewbaccaAWD video was especially helpful!
You need a Direct mount derailleur not a hanger
Here one for example
