Hi everyone,
Looking for some opinions before I file a warranty claim.
I bought these MAAP bib shorts in September from Velodrom (Barcelona). They’ve been used around 10 times max, always for road riding, no crashes, no gravel, no saddle bag rubbing, washed cold and air-dried.
I’ve just noticed that the outer fabric on the chamois area (outside of the bib, not the pad itself) is already showing visible abrasion / pilling / thinning (see photos).
Given:
• the price point
• MAAP’s reputation for premium materials
• very light usage
…I honestly didn’t expect any visible wear here so early.
My questions:
• Has anyone experienced similar wear on MAAP bibs (especially around the chamois outer fabric)?
• Is this considered normal wear, or does it look like a fabric defect / premature failure?
• Any experience dealing with MAAP warranty when the item wasn’t bought directly from maap.cc but from a retailer?
Before I reach out to MAAP or the shop, I’d really appreciate hearing what the community thinks.
Thanks in advance 🙏

Do you ride with a 3d printed saddle?
Happened with my long maap bibs when i was riding on a specialized power 3d printed saddle. Probably because it‘s not a smooth and a bit sticky.
It’s not brand dependent. Check where it match on your seat. Usually one side it’s one of the 2 things: something on the saddle (like logo, smp are bad for that), or a fit problem (you are asymmetrical, I had this problem and it was causing that on one side)
It’s not a defect. Why would a defect cause wear in one spot that happens to be where you sit on one side only.
Warranty them. I had similar with some alt road buns in the leg gripper. I was the same given glue much I paid for them that was unacceptable.
Now the warranty ones have the same premature wear….
No, not normal I have a few pairs of MAAP and dont encounter this after 1+ years of use.
No — it’s not a 3D printed saddle.
I’m riding a MOST saddle with a smooth, standard cover (not textured, no lattice, no logos on the contact area).
That’s why the wear surprised me given the very low usage.
For what it costs , should absolutely not be the norm
Looks like a warranty issue
Cargo Bibs have severe quality issues. Threads on mine came loose after 4 rides. Got a new pair after contacting customer service and the same issue happend again. Now on my 3rd pair in like 3 months. Unacceptable for the money they cost.
