
Adidas System 3. You had to slide your foot in from the back, they would self-engage but the release pressure was set by the lever as easy, medium or hard (I think the latter require you to physically move the lever to disengage, it was intended for sprinting or track use).
Good in theory, but it required you to use the specific Adidas shoes, and development delays meant that by the time it was on sale (1989) Look, and to a lesser extent Time, already had the market sewn up and they were obsolete.

Man with how many people fail to twist their foot and fall over I can’t imagine how many posts we’d get now if you had to reach down and hit a lever to unclip
