All the same things we learnt when my cycling buddies started touring!
Other things we learnt (mostly the painful way): – Just get puncture-resistant tyres, even if they're heavy. Not worth the risk. – Invest in a decent pannier (we all have tubus now) – Avoid servicing your entire bike before a tour (only do what's needed, or do a full service in advance so the bike can bed in) – We've found cable disc breaks are best for touring even though there are some drawbacks.
I was thinking of going to Wales this weekend so I will take some of these.
For extra pockets I bought myself a "Foldable Backpack" – a super lightweight thin backpack which pushes into a 5cm ball, so after a day and you want to buy a couple items from the shop you have something to put it in.
Really good idea to set lower daily mileage target. I learnt the hard way cycling 80-90+ a day with fully laden tourer. 60 is much better. Time to look at things and aim to be finished by 5. In the olden days a lot of YHAs were closed til then so arriving early meant choice of bed!
While self sufficient is important i always try to spend money locally on a good lunch, and or at the camp site. It slows us as bike packers to support the local tourist industry.

That's a lot of useful tips there.
Cheers
Hey what route did you do? After a recent camping trip, I’veBeen thinking of some thing in the beautiful area!
“Tent porch” is known as a vestibule in the camping/backpacking world. It’s a nice feature to have
MSR elixir would be good but I think you can get a backpacking version on the Hubba Hubba but that is more expensive
Great advice
I have Shimano 105 R7000 with 50/34 and aftermarket 11/42… this’s perfect for me! 😎🤙🏼
Stop trying to imitate the Welsh accent. Your not even good at it

Hi! Wondering what size paniers you used?
