Hi everyone,

I’m a beginner from Germany and just started my MTB journey with a new Conway XYRON E-Bike.

Safety is my top priority. I already have a pro-level O'Neal Blade Carbon IPX Fullface helmet. Now I need a full body protector jacket because I want to start practicing jumps and develop a more aggressive riding style. I don't want to be "overly cautious" just because I'm a beginner – I want to "send it" and progress, knowing I will likely hit the dirt quite a bit while learning.

My stats and dilemma:

Height: 180 cm (5'11").

Build: Usually wear size M or L T-shirts.

The Heat Factor: I overheat very quickly while riding (I'm always "running hot"), and I’ll be wearing a hoodie over the protector.

The Bike: It's an E-MTB, but I'm running a lightweight battery setup, so the bike weighs only 21 kg.

The choices:

Leatt ReaFlex Body Protector: I like the thin profile and the non-newtonian tech. It seems perfect for mobility and staying cool.

Leatt 3DF AirFit Lite Evo: It has thicker 3DF impact foam and seems to offer more "cushioning" for frequent crashes.

My questions:

Money is not the issue; I want the best gear for progression.

Is the thinner ReaFlex enough for "real" crashes when learning jumps with a 21kg bike?

Does the thicker 3DF Evo feel too bulky or restrictive when trying to be active on the bike?

Which one gives more confidence to a beginner who overheats easily?

P.S.: If there are any riders from Germany here who want to ride together or show a beginner some trails, hit me up!

  1. That looks pretty cool but would likely be overkill for most applications. Coming from a guy who just wears a helmet and gloves tho. I think you want to progress slowly without trying things you’re not ready for that way you won’t crash (as) much.
