Hello fine folks of r/bicycling – this is a self promo post for my very small company (it's just me) and my first product that's finally available. I am a real person, and I think it's cool to post this. I guess I'll find out based on if it gets moderated out or not 🙂 I tagged it as "Brand Affiliate" even though it's… just me here – hope that's right!

TL;DR: I designed a line of head unit mounts that lets you hide either an AirTag or Moto Tag inside the mount itself, and it's pretty neat.

A little bit about me:

  • My name is Kiran, and I live in San Francisco. I am a real person.
  • I like bikes quite a lot.
  • I've been a mechanical engineer and designer for a while (12 years now, wow).
  • I worked at Peak Design for a while. I led the mechanical architecture of the SlimLink system (for cases and all the mechanically locking mounts).
  • I started my own company a couple years ago. It's been very interesting, very educational, and very challenging.

A little bit about my company:

  • It's called Gradient Projects.
  • I make a few things in house in San Francisco (soap, cargo net clips, more things to come).
  • I've just received my first mass produced product.

A little bit about that first mass produced product:

  • It's called stealthmount.
  • stealthmount is a line of head unit mounts that lets you hide either an AirTag or a Moto Tag inside the mount itself.
  • I'm currently offering both an out front mount as well as a stem spacer mount.
  • Both are available for Garmin, Hammerhead (natively, not via a quarter-turn adapter), and Wahoo.
  • A direct top cap mount is next on the roadmap.
  • The mount is "head unit agnostic", so it's a super low cost if you change head unit brands down the road (you just have to replace the head unit receiver, nothing else).
  • It is a real product; Bike Magazine just took a look.
  • Here's an exploded view animation of what the out front mount looks like.

wheeee

I am quite experienced in the design and manufacturing process, but I'm a total novice at sales and marketing. I tend to (personally) come to Reddit to do research before buying things for myself and like that I can see actual discussions of real people's experiences. I'm hoping that by putting my product out there here, I can do my best to invite conversation and answer any questions people might have.

Hope it's obvious that I wrote this post myself and that's it's not AI slop since the internet is getting more and more flooded with that nonsense these days. The animation above is real photos that I animated, not a render.

Anyhoo – thanks for reading, and hope you find this interesting. Happy to answer any questions you may have! If you made it this far and want to learn more, here's a 5 minute video that goes into more detail. Thanks so much for your interest!

  1. That’s awesome! Curious if you’re going to do some others brands like Knogs Scout? AirTag will say it’s traveling with you so I tent to only use it for my key’s and stuff
