hi yall, sorry if i misses rhe subreddit. My bike was left for a month and when i returned this damage was visible (hole on the rim on the right). Is a new rim the only option, would the structural integrity be fine with a sillicone fix or a weld even? Reason im asking is is have money for a new rim but not for new sprockets, disks and rim. Any advice is helpful. cheers

That happened to me last month and was told the rim was toast. But I only had to get a new rim and one spoke, and the guy at the bike shop swapped everything else.

r/bikewrench would be best for this question and you’ll find tons of maintenance tips there too, you should check it out.

  2. New wheel would be the best option probably. Not worth it to rebuilt your hub into a new wheel

If you’re not sure, take it to a mechanic. Looks like a new rim, spoke, and nipple, if what’s shown in the pic is the only damage

  4. Clear safety issue. As is, unsafe. And even if you could patch that, couldn’t trust that rim. One nipple and grommet already pulled through.

One new spoke, new rim on top of old, change spokes over, tighten progressively, true. It’s not rocket science, but it takes understanding, care, and a bit of skill.

wheel would wobble even no spoke broken. so if your bike is expensive it is good to buy new old stock or 2nd hand from local bikeshop or local online marketplace.

choose the same size (etrto) + axle size + quickrelease/nut + rim width + freewheel/freehub + discbreak mount. it is easy and safe way.

i do not recommend to rebuild wheel if it was cheap bike because rim same double wall thickness is hard to find and most bikeshop can not stock even that might can recycle old parts to new rim especially lacing with an old spokes is can be big price jump.
