Hi,

Booked a trip to Jordan in march this year to do the jordan bike trail. I am planning to do this on my Gravel Bike which is equipped with 40mm wide tires right now.

Would you guys say its doable or would you resort to wider tires? MTB is not an option.

What I can do is edit the route so I skip some real nasty parts and go on paved segments instead.

Would like to hear your insights. As for Wadi Rum, I am well aware that its gonna be a pain in the ass with a gravel bike but in the worst case, Im just gonna throw the bike onto a pickup truck and do the normal tourisitic stuff.

Thank you for your insights!

If you have to option I would go wider, but don’t sweat it too much! 🙂
(walked the length of Jordan (and rode a lot of rocky and sandy stuff elsewhere in the Sahara on 2inch, which felt like the minimum width to me))

I did it on a gravel bike.
No problem, it’s mostly Trekking Bike territory.
I rode 2.1″ Thunder Burts but you’ll be mostly fine on 40mm, although it’s certainly no harm to max out your frame capabilities.
The only place you will suffer is Wadi Rum as you already recognized, but for me ot was just a rather short section, quite a lot of it had solid sand and was flawlessly rideable, although tires were pretty mich deflated.
    Enjoy the trip!
