Building a 90’s GT Karakoram. Hoping to use these Vbrakes, but when I test fit them, their span is really wide. I have some canti brakes I can use, but would have to get different levers. Also, the brake mount posts are hard to slide the brakes onto. Did the previous owner overtighten causing this, or what else could have caused it? I’m worried it will cause issues when the brakes disengage.

Try reassembling the brake pads with the smaller set of convex/concave washers closer to the rim. This will bring the arms in at the top. A film of grease on the posts will help with free movement.
Where is the noodle? there should be a noodle (sort of bent pupe that the cable goes though, on the left had side? The span will be narrower with a cable fitted as it holds the tops together with the cable.
