I rode through the Alps this summer with Sushita and in this video I’ll be sharing some breathtaking scenes from some of the most picturesque mountains in the world. We will ride a few famous trails from Austria to Italy and spend a few days in the incredible Dolomites.

If you want to check the route out, I have .gpx files available here: https://www.bikingplaces.com/routes

Leave a comment if you’ve been to the Alps on a bike and if you recommend any other routes, I’m sure I’ll be back to see more of the mountains. If you enjoy what you saw and want to support the channel you can buy me a coffee here: https://buymeacoffee.com/bikingplaces .

  1. Beautiful video, beautiful narration. I’ve watched all your videos and wish they come more often. Regarding the airlines, have you considered Singapore airlines? They have 23 kgs x 2 as check in luggage and consider sport equipment including cycles as one check in luggage, so long as it fits the dimensions mentioned which most bike boxes do. This saves on additional luggage charges.

  2. Holy cow, we froze at Nauders when we got caught in a rainstorm there. We went from T-shirts at Martina to bundling everything we had there. The rain felt like icicles as we cycled through.

  3. German here: If you want to avoid any pass crossing the alps, go from Innsbruck to Landeck and then head to St. Moritz along the Inn river.
Go down the Maloja pass and after 50 km you arrive at the Lake Como

  4. Beautiful video, I have two practical questions:
Where did you store the bike boxes/bags in Milano during your trip?
You left your bikes with tons of bikepacking bags/panniers behind for several hours on several occasions (hikes, cable cars, etc.) – how did you protect all that stuff? (It's not Japan, stuff gets stolen…)

  5. Wonderful work on the video and content. We loved that part of Italy and hope to return next year. We went on a hiking trip in May of 2024 and experienced good weather. Although some lifts we not open yet for the summer season, and there was still snow on the ground on some of the trails we hiked. Thanks for bring back great memories of the Dolomites!

  6. Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed your fantastic journey. I have a plan to bike around the Alps next year and am thinking of flying in Milan, too. Would you share your itinerary that will be a great help for me to plan? Oh never mind. I just found what you put down but any advice would be welcomed. Thx!

  7. Love the video. I spent a week in the Dolomites in 2021 hiking and biking around the Sella Ronda. It's so easy to take bus or train to neighboring valleys. Good food and friendly people (I was solo so really enjoyed meeting locals).

  8. Wow, having found your video about the cameras you use, I now stumble upon this one.

It's been particularly useful as some friends and I are cycling Italy Top to Toe next Spring and the information about the train was very welcome. I think I'll be travelling up from Rome by train.

I'm really interested in seeing Brennero now, as that looks like a beautiful town to start.

    Brilliant channel.

  9. Nice one! If the trip was around August that would (in part) explain why it was expensive, it's super high-season. Especially in the Dolomites best time to go is June, July or even September.

  10. Beautiful views and great explanations of the various aspects of your ride. I have done the Munich to Venice friendship trail, it was similar in beauty. Thanks for sharing.
