Hey, I recently hot-waxed my chain (second time, initially fully degreased) and put it back on, but it’s making a strange / rattling noise. What could be wrong, or is this normal? The chain isn’t hitting the tab on the rear derailleur. It's a gravel bike.
Is this a normal sound after hot waxing a chain?

Sounds like it’s routed wrong between the jockey wheels on the derailleur. Easy mistake to make. There’s a little tab in there that it should be on the other side of
Reversed chain? Some Shimano(most, I’m im not mistaken) have a directional chain. Very easy to put on backwards.
You can see several stiff links in the chain as it goes round the jockey wheels.
You need to spend some time freeing up the links, either by hand or maybe riding the bike in the smallest cog. I find it takes a few miles of riding for the shifting to become perfectly smooth
Happens to me every time out of a wax bath. It’s just stiff from some wax that needs to be broken up. Go out for a normal ride, it’ll sound like you have an unadjusted derailleur for a while (takes less than an hour for me) then it’ll go back to normal.
Normal. I like to have my chain all ready by the time I’m out riding, so I put it big ring front and small back and then hammer away on the pedal, brake and repeat a few times. There will just be some wax on the floor to swipe up afterwards.
