Looking to buy my first road bike. Will be riding mostly on flat roads. Supersix is $650 and Synapse is $850. I read that that year for the Supersix was great but it's almost a 15 year old bike. Synapse is alloy with a carbon fork and has disc brakes. Don't have close up photos of Synapse but seller claims it was ridden less than 5 times. Will meet at an LBS for an inspection. Which one would you buy and why?

  1. 2018* Cannondale 105 all day… good god that SuperSix is ugly, Cannondale, Cannondale, Cannondale, Cannondale.

“Wait, hold on, we can fit another Cannondale logo inside the chainstay.”

“Why, you can barely see it?”

    “Why? Cause fuck it… Cannondale.”

Synapse. The Supersix is a great race bike, but you’re a beginner/ you don’t need such an aggressive geometry.

The synapse is plenty fast, but also super comfy. You’ll enjoy what this bike has to offer. Disc brakes also offer far better stopping power than rim brakes.

I’m partial to that 2012 Supersix. That thing is gonna be lighter and faster and a great joy for proper roadie rides. But if you want to do more casual riding or ride surfaces that benefit from having wider tires then the 2021 Synapse would be the more sensible choice.

  4. There is no way that is a 2021 105 Synapse. With post mount brakes and QR skewers that is an 2017-18 at the latest. The aluminum Synapse is overpriced. The SuperSix is a lot better value.

  5. These are two wildly different bikes. You’re comparing a race bike to an endurance bike.
