If the teeth on the sprocket are fine and the chain isn’t skipping because of that, It might be a loose sprocket like the other person commented, so when you lock the pedals it spins the sprocket on the threads since it’s not tightened all the way. Be careful, cause doing this can ruin the threads on the rear hub!

  2. Yeah this looks to me like your sprocket threads are probably already fubar. Might get away with tightening it and the lock ring down but in my experience this is a new rear hub and check everything is tight next time.

Edit to add that this is basically a rite of passage alongside fucking up the removal of a well seized square taper crankset.

  3. Tbh your chain looks too tight/short, and the cog/lockring probably isn’t on tight enough causing it to slip (slowly stripping the threads on your hubs) and making it feel like the chain is jumping.

  4. I’ve had this. You didn’t tighten the lock ring enough now it slipping. You may already be screwed but take a whip and tighten that shit down.

Had the same thing. lock ring on the rear hub wasn’t tight enough. i tightened it, but threads were probably already toast by that point, so it came loose again and resulted in a nasty crash. (no lasting damage to me, minor damage on the bike, already back in the saddle)

Edit: to add, it was also a state bicycle, although a different model

It could also be a mismatch of chain and drivetrain that causes the chain to slip off the teeth of the sprocket/chainring.
