Why do the brake pads on my hydraulic brakes fit more snugly in the area marked in red? That area rubs against the disc. In the third image, you can see the gap between the pads; the top part is wider than the bottom part.
I’m interested in learning more about disc brake caliper adjustment so am following this. I found this tool to be helpful. A Redditor recommended it in another thread:
try to push the piston all the way back to the caliper with piston spreader. Look like piston not align.

Why do they fit more snugly there *than where*? Or do you mean why do they fit more snugly there *than they used to*?
If you simply mean the sub mm difference between the top of the photo gap and the bottom of the photo gap I need to ask if there are any other symptoms or why you believe that small difference is an issue. Are there any other symptoms of uneven wear?

What brakes are those? I see suntour behind it And I’m guessing that’s the fork, and I’m guessing these are bottom of the barrel hydros. My kid’s bike has some like that and between them and the flex ass fork they are a pita to adjust.

If there’s a warranty on your brake calipers, now may be the time.

Is there a spring in there pushing them apart?
