Hey everyone! I'm a mountain biker and software developer, and over many rides I've noticed we often get stuck not knowing whether trail systems are wet, closed, muddy, etc. I decided to build a tool (GnarCheck) that aggregates live trail condition reports, weather + historical patterns, and user inputs to give a trail status estimate (e.g. “Good to ride,” “Caution,” “Too wet”). There's even a feature to assign users as "stewards" of trail systems, which would allow those users to update trail status without posting a status update.

I've also incorporated genAI and a Machine Learning model that predicts trails status based on historical data, forecast, soil properties, and over 100 other features. Of course, nothing is ever more accurate than eyes on the trails and a status update posted on the app!

The app is 100% free. I built it for us, the Mountain Biking community. It's not perfect, there is a lot to be done, and I would love your feedback to make it a useful tool for us.

Check it out here: – https://www.gnarcheck.com – there's also an iOS version in the Apple App Store.

Thanks! I am happy to answer any questions, open to suggestions, etc.

Love this idea! I hope to see it working in my area one day. I live in Kelowna BC Canada.

  2. Cool concept and nice UI, but..

Seems to be wrong for my area: 90% confidence to “Go Ride” in 0% mud. Reality: trails are peanut butter mud/snow covered.
