I just moved states and am in a city for the first time in a long time and have been looking for a town commuter bike and I found this Gios at goodwill I though it looked really cool so I bought it. It had clip ins so I replaced them with cheap platform pedals and replaced the old tires

I’ve been almost exclusively a mountain bike guy so I don’t really know what I’m looking at. After some research (googling gios compact pro) it seems like I might have found a sought after bike.

Any info on the bike would be awesome. Really just trying to see if it’s something I should be locking up around town or if I should find another cruise around town bike.

  1. That’s a very nice bicycle. I would recommend heading over to the Vintage Bicycles subreddit or better yet the Classic & Vintage section on bikeforums.net – either place will be useful for giving you more info on the bike, price advice if you want to sell, etc.

Im more of an old touring bike guy so I don’t know a ton about your Gios but it’s a true classic racing bike, not something I would use for my commute. You lucked into something you can absolutely flip into a pretty killer commute set up though if you want!

Wow, that’s an amazing bike. You’ve picked up. Campagnolo drivetrain. Gios frame. That’s a solid win.

  3. This is a niiiiice old vintage bike. Really, really lovely.

Bikes are built to be used, but it would honestly be a waste to use this as an around-town beater bike. I’d buy another, cheaper bike that you won’t mind getting scratched and dinged, and save this one for fun rides, or resell if you only have room for two bikes.

  4. As others have said, that is not a commuter bike. The person who gave that up either didn’t know what they had, or just gave up. Do a really good job cleaning that thing up, and you’ve got a lifer. Nice.
