Recently I took three days of studying and decided to visit Paris, probably the city that I hated on the most during my time on Instagram.

I went to Paris, mainly because it’s the last year that I am under 26. I am 25 now and if you’re under 26 and from the European Union you can visit most of the museums and famous sites in Paris for free! So, being Dutch, I couldn’t pass on that opportunity.

The place I wanted to visit the most was L’Hôtel des Invalides, the tomb of my favorite historical figure ever, Napoleon Bonaparte.

I also went to the Mussée d’Orsay and the Louvre, but visiting L’Empereur himself was my highlight.

My opinion on Paris has changed throughout the years. I used to hate it completely. Mostly because of all the reasons I listed in the video. It’s smelly, dirty, and dangerous, but also: overcrowded, overpriced, and the metro system is very complex. That last one is understandable though.

However, in recent years I did manage to re-discover the beauty in Paris again. I wouldn’t want to live there if you paid me for it, but from a visitor’s perspective it’s a must-visit city. At least once in your lifetime.

I still much prefer my beloved Eastern European cities, they’re all much better in my opinion, but Paris is still Paris.

  1. Paris is my favorite place in the entire world. I’m American and growing up reading about it and seeing it in movies, art and fashion. I had an image in my mind. When I arrived ahead of the Olympics in June ‘24 the city was preparing for the epic event. The best way to describe Paris is-everything you can and image yet nothing like you could ever image. It is a living breathing tapestry….she’s magnificent. For the record I didn’t smell anything horrible. I was there for 3 days and walked atleast 15000-20000 steps a day. I’m going back again in a few months. When I returned from the first trip I was stuck could not stop talking about it but I had to. Some people will try to shame you if they haven’t been. I stay humble and on my knees and grateful for all my blessing. I guess people can just be weird.

  2. I have a question to someone who has been to both the US and Paris. I am an American. I have never left the US. But I know in washington for example, people are shi*ting on the streets and overdosing in alleys. I have smelled sewage, poop, drug fumes, urine, vomit, BO….all in America. I refuse to believe Paris smells that bad. And it seems the people with that opinion can AFFORD to leave America. Most likely implying they live in a location where they dont see turds that dont belong to themselves. Is it a difference in perspective or is Paris really THAT rank? I dont get it.

  3. I agree with you. They said Paris is overrated don't go there. Then where to go. Paris is full of art and beauty. Eiffel tower, Louvre and a lot of beautiful places. It is indeed a beautiful city. I visited one time would love to visit again.

  4. Paris est une ville magnifique mais il y a beaucoup de coin où il ne faut pas aller et il y a beaucoup d’arnaque et il vaut mieux ne pas aller en banlieue car c’est très dangereux

  5. I loved seeing your transformation throughout the video! Paris has a way of surprising us, doesn’t it? The architecture and atmosphere really make it a magical place. 🥐✨

  6. visited paris in 2014, graffitti covered churches and houses, garbaged filled the gutters in the street, my first impression of paris was the overwhelming smell of piss in the metro, never going back, paris syndrome is real
