Pleased to share my build. Been lurking on here for a few months and soaking up inspiration. Some awesome stuff out there!

Here's my 1995 Marin Muirwoods. I picked up the bike almost completely original for £70 this summer with the intention of building a city cruiser. You can see the how it looked originally at the end of the photos.

Fitting the rack with a front cantilever brake was a challenge, though pretty happy with the solution I've arrived at, it does introduce a little sponginess but not enough to bother me.

I also got it in my head that I wanted 1 x 11 which became a slight challenge, though it's now working lovely. I might upsize the chainring for higher top end though. I don't do mega miles on it just a city commuter.

Sourced parted from all the usual places, eBay, Facebook, Ali Express.

Going against advice on here, I kept a cost spreadsheet for the build, though I wasn't working to a specific budget, it was interesting to see how quickly you can sink money into these: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KPu-8ZrMACMNGKZ5p9ptRf0E6kgYlbRgKp30pXAh69s/edit?usp=drivesdk

Hope you like it and it adds to the inspiration pool!

  1. I too have a bad habbit of joting down bike parts cost, and I have to say mine are pretty close to yours, despite not having mudguards or racks, I get a bit more than you do, despite sourcing from the same places.
    Nicely done Marin, love it.

  2. cool build, love the color matched bottle cage.

biut god damn do I wish they made these baskets in a 26in specific version.
