I’ve got a haro dlx downtown I recently purchased. I don’t like the gyro brakes so removed those for a single rear and put a new stem on. (screws were stripped on the one that came with it.) but now I have a lot of play in it and I can’t figure out what I did to make it do that? I’m new to bmx so I’m at a loss right now on what in the world I did wrong.

You’re missing the topcap and bolt. Loosen the bolts on the side of the stem, tighten the topcap bolt until the play is gone and the forks still move freely, then retighten the stem bolts.
Good info. You will possibly need another headset space to make up for the space where the gyro plate used to be.
