Using a Matchmaker X mount with Maven brakes the pod covers the left side of my grip to where the outside of my thumb rubs on it and it's so far back I have to dislocate my thumb to reach it when I need to shift. Even then it's awkward to use the break with my middle finger since I have to bend it to the left because my hand is so far to the right. When wearing winter gloves my pinky is nearly off the grip. My hands aren't huge or anything. I ended up getting an infinity pod clamp and abandoning the clean looking setup SRAM intended.

I have the same problem with the dropper lever on the left side. I think that will be easier to fix by using a right hand Matchmaker X shifter mount on the left side for the dropper, I have one on order.

I guess I just needed to rant. This stuff is too expensive for it to be uncomfortable to use. Admittedly I'm still getting used to this bike, I only have a few rides on it since it's mud season in my area. So far I kinda like my 7 year old NX setup better which leaves me disappointed, it even shifts faster. I can't be the only one having this problem, can I?

TLDR: Why SRAM POD w/ Matchmaker X suck?

  1. Happy with kind using the discrete mount. Also there is a company that sells one that allowed you to install it at 90 degree angle

I just got a new bike with that pod. I loved the old AXS paddle but this new one seems uncomfortable no matter how I adjust it. The old AXS paddle will work with the T-type and Sram also sells a rocker paddle you can install that feels way better than the stock one.

I’m cheap so I haven’t changed the stock pod, I’ve been getting used to how it is and its not as awkward now. Still not comfortable though.

I thought was the only one. Doesn’t matter how much I adjust it, always feels awkward to use.

It’s terrible… I’m using the old style pod (while this one sits in a box), which is fantastic!

  5. I got the rocker paddle. It’s so so much better. You can also use your pointer finger to shift with it too. I also saw a 3rd party clamp the other day that lets you put the POD sideways. I think that would be better as well.

Did you say you’re using your brake with your middle finger? Do you have a medical condition that makes you have to use your middle finger? It also seems like your levers are really close to your grips.

  7. Your setup looks awful. Brakes too far out and the matchmaker isn’t helping you find the right setup. And why are you braking with your middle finger, or was that a joke? I’d honestly take your bike to a shop and ask for them to help you position everything properly.

  8. It’s my only complaint really. There is an aftermarket mount that is more adjustable but I feel like I need to test it before buying.

Get the rocker paddle it’s like $20 and makes it useable. Gives you access to a sprint shifter with your pointer finger

  10. They should just make a left/right blip setup like the road shifter and do away with these janky contraptions.

  11. Well you see they looked at their mechanical shifter and asked, “How can we make the electric one just as bad?”
