Although the Stumpie gets ridden way more, I’ve found this combo of an Epic Evo 7 and Stumpjumper 15 seems to cover all my riding needs where I am in the rocky, rooty, undulating northeastern US.
The XC is 120/110 and light, faster and efficient but rather twitchy when descending gnarly stuff. Great for gravel trails mixed with single track rides and smoother, flowier stuff. I never found it all that fun pointed down steep terrain and thought the contemporary reviews to overstate its capabilities. It is not the “quiver killer” some claim it to be. For what the Epic is designed to do, mainly climb and speed through trails, it is immensely competent. Broke so many of my PRs on this thing, even if it’s not the funnest bike to ride, which brings me to my next one….
My other is 150/145. This is closer, I think, to being a true quiver killer. It’s 5 lbs heavier but you get so much more confidence and comfort for it. I can feel the extra weight when switching between the two but you get used to it fairly quickly. Haven’t set nearly as many PRs on this but it feels faster and is just plain funner. Chalk that up to the 2 degree slacker head tube and better feeling rear shock. That Genie shock works as intended. Never thought I’d be sold on it but I must also admit to taking a liking to the electronic shifting and dropper.
Whats your XC and trail combo?
