Hey, was thinking further on this incident and, in the decades I've been cycling (in Australia), I have had a couple of them too. What has helped get past the emotional trauma of these events is the fact that A) the dickhead didn't actually hit me and, B) the enormous number of vehicles that do pass safely and treat me as a rider with respect. It helps my mindset if nothing else. All the best and safe riding.
I hear you there Conner! I had a guy take it to the next level. Unfortunately he didn’t know had boxed when I was younger. I continued my ride and his wife took him back to the city.
If someone waved a hammer at you or fired a gun and missed that would be considered attempted murder or assault. Why is using your car in the same way not classed the same?
It´s not road rage when you just try to not get bulllied.

Riding a bicycle should be MANDATORY to obtain a driving license as it is the ONLY WAY to understand what it is and the be careful about cyclist.
It even made me a better driver as i can applies tricks and skills that i use while riding but with my car, that could be a reason I'm a much better driver than 95% of the population!

Quite honestly you could have defended yourself when he approached you aggressively by using a defensive strike such as a boot to his pathetic little face or his gross belly. His character is disgusting. There are a lot of people in this World out for themselves, riding a bike is nothing to do with it, these people are the same down the pub and at work, narcissists.
Very mature to say “it’s on both sides”. And you’re right, people tend to blame the others while everyone has to start with him or herselfs behaviour. In this case obviously outrageous and I would indeed press charges, that behaviour should not be tolerated.
Had this happen to me a couple of years ago, just finished work as a cycle instructor, full hi viz cycling back home. Saw van pulling off his drive, next second he close passed me around 6 inches away, then pulled over to tell me why. Could have been the same bloke, horrible specimen of a human. Told me why I should be using a cycle lane, funny thing is the cycle land didn’t start for another 100m. Went to the police, had reg and address, not interested unless I had video. Shameful.

if you reported to Police he would have been prosecuted for careless driving and common assault. Unless it gets reported this behaviour won’t change
Report him and give over the reg.. he’s a complete – – – – – – – and nobody blame you for you loosing your temper. Think we all would have done the same with his comments and it makes you human. Keep your head high, he should be reported.

Please No bothsideism. Cyclists are angry for a good reason. Get the Police Out of their Donut Shops and let them Control distances. We have 2m mandatory lateral distances for overtakes on countryroads Here but no one cares
It's a sad day, when people say they would have been happier if they hit you 😢😢… A few years back, I experienced a similar situation.. the guy kept saying "…you came out of nowhere…🚴 " … sigh… cool magic trick… complete with BLINKING LIGHTS…😢

Gravel biking all the way no prats to ram you
American here. First defense is always don’t engage, get away, and make distance. However I always carry a very light weight/aero medium range hole puncher in a jersey pocket at all times just in case. I’ve been hit in the back with drinks, food scraps, and on more than one occasion had my handlebars tapped by a car or truck despite being highly visible. Not once have I ever escalated the situation and I get the hell out of dodge. Live to ride another day and accept the ignorance of the masses my friend. Sorry this happened to you.

I had a firework thrown at me once while I was cycling home in the dark. I'm about to start commuting to work by bike (because I love it) but I've not rode for a long time (not because of the firework 😅..)
But situations like this really scare me. You feel so vulnerable.
Absolutely horrifying.
I have literally had drivers, while we were having fun civil conversation about supercars in the parking lot of a car meet, tell me they would run me off the road. Like wtf is wrong with you? You haven't even seen me ride, I'm stopped, walking my bike to look at cars, and that kind of nonsense
the oil n car industries are pushing back…and illiterate drivers fall for their propaganda and it has trickled down to road rage. I carry OC and a scary sharp dirk.
