I went to Newburyport last weekend for my first bikepacking overnight. The ride up there was pretty good, and I got to try some new trails around Boston I didn’t know of (northern strand and Danvers rail trail).

The wildlife reserve had some beautiful scenes, but seeing the asphalt cut through it made me reflect on how invasive cars are that so much asphalt was poured in a protected area to cater to cars.

On Sunday, a mile out of town, my rear tire was slashed by a razor on the road. I had an emergency boot but I still had to replace and patch 3 flats. I didn’t bike the full 50 miles home bc I kept panicking that the tire would go flat again.

Overall a good practice for my cross country trip, and a good reminder of the need to prepare for terrible/dangerous road conditions.
