Alright guys I'm clearly a novice and don't know much. I bought this Specialized Allez for $240 on Facebook marketplace. The owner told me it was in "Perfect" condition. I rode the bicycle around for maybe 2 minutes and it seemed fine even though the bike definitely seemed like it had a busy life.

Anyways, I decide to go for it and buy the bicycle since they seemed nice (their daughter was playing outside for Christ sake lol).

I get home to go ride it around the neighborhood and I notice that the downshifter is missing and I can't shift the gears down.

How much would this cost to fix or replace? Definitely a learning experience for me and will be way more cautious buying on Facebook again.

Thanks any input given 🙂

  1. If he won’t reimburse you (I would ask for some $ back)
Plan B Buy other compatible shifters on FB. you already got a decent deal on the bike so you have money left over, technically.

  2. Historical-Sherbet37 on

Is that old school Claris? Is it 2×8? Claris lever sets are pretty cheap, and you could go with the upgraded style which would clean up the cables.

  3. Buy a replacement. Take to local shop. They might have one for cheap . Also, not the seller’s fault. You inspected and bought it used.

  4. Id just find one like it that is compatible on ebay and get it installed or install it your self. Its not that hard. Its a used bike with all of those thats an as is purchase. Shouldnt be too expensive.
