Hello, I hope this question somewhat belong here. Right now I’ve got GRX600 1×11 mix and GRX400 hydro brakes, nothing wrong with it, but I’m bike tinkerer and I enjoy maintaining, adjusting and upgrading a bike, because of that, I want to convert to 2×10 Sword with Cable brakes. Is there anyone, who did it? Were there any regrets? Did I lose my mind? I don’t chase performance, most of the time I commute to work, ride around 70km trips and I want to try bikepacking(rackpacking). I love 10 speed drivetrains, I want 2x just because of the new complexity to a bike and I think I don’t mind cable brakes. My gf has Spyres and Sword but I can’t fully try it cause her bike is XS and I don’t fit at all, my knees hit handlebars. Adding picture of my not so xbike.

Imo, conversion to sword doesn’t make any sense. Why no changing left brifter, cassette and adding front derailleur? Also, for me, hydro brakes are superior to any mechanical brakes (and I don’t want to debate about it xD)

Switching from hydraulic to cable is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

If you want to make your brakes better, begin with larger rotors, and then at some point upgrade the brakes themselves to more powerful hydraulics.

I went from 203mm front, 180mm rear, running Shimano saints, to running a 225mm front and a 205mm rear, and upgraded the brakes to Trickstuff Maximas running braided wire hose.

I can stop on a dime, regardless of load  (I run a Ti Omnium Cargo, so no fear of endos).

You obviously don’t have to go to those extremes, but upping the rotor diameter will increase braking power of any brake.

  3. brother you bought the highest specced temple complete and opted for the carbon rims, too. its a beautiful complete bike with all the bells and whistles. if you want to tinker get a second frame. if you wanted 2x and mechanical brake, temple offers a bike with that exact spec for 1k less than what you spent.

in short: yes, you have lost your mind. there is nothing to upgrade on your whip except for a carbon finishing kit that nobody really needs.
